Maisha Project

Today's program consists of a choir of 11 elementary school children from Kenya who will sing and dance. The songs are in their native tongue, Swahili. Resilience: The Science of Hope

United Way of Payne County executive director Sheri Carter is joining us today. United Way is a community partner along with OSU, The Saville Center, CASA, Payne County Youth Services, Big Brothers and Sisters, and Stillwater Cares in a grass roots community wide coalition called "Payne County Resilience Coalition," which formed in July. This coalition has the purpose of moving Stillwater, Payne County, and the state of Oklahoma towards becoming a Trauma Aware Community. Their first mission is for everyone in our community to view the documentary "Resilience: The Science of Hope." This award winning documentary was produced and directed by James Redford, son of Robert Redford, and sheds light on the science behind traumatic childhood experiences and how they impact the child's physical and mental health, and therefore society at large.
