Joyce Jackson
Civil Rights Activist and First Black Female Journalist on Oklahoma Television

Joyce Jackson participated in Oklahoma City's 1958 Katz Drug Store sit-in with Clara Luper. She was the first Black female journalist on Oklahoma City television, at KOCO channel 5. In addition, she was a founder of the Black Media Association, she broke the story of the federal government closing Penn Square Bank, and she endured threats from people who wanted her off the air. When she left KOCO her career transitioned to the Department of Corrections.
